As you probably know already, Roxas is Sora's nobody and the thirteenth member of Organization XIII (this can also be discerned by the fact that his name is actually an anagram of "Sora" with an X added, like all the members' names except for their leader, Xemnas, who is using an anagram of "Ansem", although the name of his somebody was really Xehanort) who appears first in Kingdom Hearts 2.

"Sora: I don't get it. Why's everybody been calling me Roxas? - Riku: Because, Sora. Roxas is your nobody. - Sora: My... nobody? But that's crazy, I never turned into a heart...... oh, right. - Kairi: It was when you came to rescue me, remember?"

He came into existence when Sora 'opened' his heart with Riku's keyblade in order to set Kairi's heart free, when he was a heartless for a short period of time.

"Roxas: Why did the Keyblade choose me? I have to know."

Other than most other nobodies, at least those of of the organization, Roxas does not have any memory of 'his' earlier life as a somebody. This might be due to the fact that Sora wasn't a heartless for a very long time and quickly regained his heart, or simply because his somebody reappeared. Anyway, it is not explained in the game and so I can only speculate. As Sora's nobody, of course, he shares his gift of being able to handle keyblades (he is, in fact, seen using two of them most of the time).

"Riku: Xemnas was the one who found Roxas. He could use the Keyblade because he was your nobody. That's why Xemnas brought him into the organization - but Roxas betrayed them. After that I fought him because I thought it would help you wake up. I lost, but the next time we met I made sure I was the stronger one. Maybe I didn't need to fight him after all. I think he left the organization because... he really wanted to meet you."

But there's still more to Roxas than only this: While there's little known about his time with the Organization XIII, we learn that he left them at some point because he was not satisfied with his whole existence. He wanted to know more about himself, more about his somebody and so on. After he left the organization, he fought Riku, who was working for a mysterious man that called himself "DiZ" at that time, twice - winning first, but being defeated the second time because Riku had let the darkness once again take over his body.

"Roxas: No one knows me better than me."

DiZ then produces a digital version of Twilight Town and puts Roxas into it, not without deleting his previous memory though. This all happens in order to get Roxas to become one with Sora again, thus releasing him from his sleep. But enough of the story, let's get on to some characteristics and personal facts of Roxas, especially in view of his connection with Sora. First of all, they definitely share visual traits (as other known nobodies do as well); yet they don't look completely similar.

"Sora: Roxas... I wish I could meet him, too."

In terms of character it seems that Roxas is different before being deprived of his memory by DiZ and as a programmed version in the virtual Twilight Town. The 'first' Roxas isn't seen a lot and there's little known about him, as I wrote, but he seems calmer and more serious, perhaps because he has more encumbering memories (or, rather, lack thereof) - in Twilight Town he's just a normal kid after all, although he is experiencing some quite weird events; but, at least, he has friends - and the impression of possessing a heart. In this 'reality', he his more carefree and light-hearted, simply wishing to spend time with his friends.

"DiZ: You should share some of that hatred with Sora. He's far too nice for his own good."

Nevertheless he's not as extroverted as Sora, generally appearing less frisky, without the jolly nature of his counterpart. There's even DiZ/Ansem the Wise stating that Sora is far too nice compared to Roxas in the beginning of Kingdom Hearts 2, and I think there's definitely some truth to it. Where you could easily label Sora as "nice as pie", Roxas is an a little more realistic character - he does have negative feelings and he does hold grudges, while Sora can usually (easily?) forgive.

"Naminé: You... you were never supposed to exist, Roxas."

When he finally discovers that he isn't meant to exist and does not seem to have a 'right' of existence, because he's only supposed to 'live' within Sora, it is a devastating revelation - after all, everything around him seemed so 'real' all the time (even though he had a feeling something strange was going on). For quite a while he has problems coping with it - comprehensible, I think - but in the end, after carrying out a fight with his other self, he accepts that Sora is the one who is somebody and not him; and that, no matter whether it's fair or not, he can't change the facts and has to bear with it.

"Naminé: I always thought nobodies were doomed to fade back into darkness... - Roxas: Yeah, but you and I didn't. We got to meet our original selves. - Naminé: So, we can be together again!"

Shortly after he realizes that even if he's in/with Sora and can't have a body of his own, he still 'exists' within Sora and so, he can also have a peaceful ending.

Unlike Sora, he usually uses two keyblades, namely the Oblivion and Oathkeeper keychains (where does the second one come from?).

If you are interested and want to learn more about Roxas, I can only recommend you to check out this site, as it's really great and far more detailed and profound than this short description/mention.
