comparison

I was gonna post pictures, too, but there didn't seem to be any quality images of the characters, so I changed my mind...

Rei Ayanami (Neon Genesis Evangelion): Probably the biggest resemblance (at least to me, that is). I immediately thought about the likeness of their struggling to understand the human mind/nature, especially when Tio starts to cry out of happiness, wondering why she was doing so (as she connects tears to sad feelings only) and Rei who is surprised to see Shinji cry when he was relieved by her survival and not understanding her own tears later on either.

Besides, they are both only following commands instead of deciding for themselves in the beginning - nevertheless, they learn how to live and feel later on.

Lain Iwakura (Serial Experiments Lain): They might not have a lot in common character-wise, but their behaviour is by all means similar. Lain who is "disconnected" from people in general and has a lot of trouble finding friends and relating to others, thus appearing rather emotionless on the outside and Tio not understanding how feelings work at all.

Plus, Lain is very good with computers and Tio is a machine herself that can control other ones as well. Nonetheless, the biggest difference between the two is most probably the fact that Lain is indeed able to feel and event ries to do nearly everything for her beloved while Tio most likely couldn't understand such an action.

Lala Ru (Now and then, here and there): Another very reserved character who doesn't speak (her mind) a lot; although she might understand humaneness and feeling(s), her vibrancy resembles that of Tio in a lot of ways (well, in my opinion).

Fuu-Jin (Final Fantasy VIII): Another of those characters who don't reveal a lot about themselves... Fuu-Jin is very silent and thus you never really know what she's thinking, yet her behaviour differs from Tio in that she can probably feel and isn't constantly bewildered by herself.

Nonetheless I think there's a resemblance, as Fuu-Jin is, for example, also "blindly" following her leader without questioning his motives and if she does, she wouldn't go against him anyway whereas Tio decides to follow Mareg around although he assured her of her freedom.

Mikoto (Final Fantasy IX): She's definitely very much like Tio, especially in the beginning. Not only is she primarily carrying out instructions, also, as one of the few genomes having a soul, she might have the ability to feel and be "human", but she doesn't know how to do so on default; instead, she has to learn it in a long process.

It is never shown in the game, but I presume she eventually understands what it means to "live". In contrast to Tio, however, Mikoto thinks that feelings are unnecessary (Tio might appear to think so at some points as well, but she's caring to "find her heart" after all).

Presea Combatir (Tales of Symphonia): While Presea is "controlled" by her ex-sphere/cruxis-crystal, she's acting a lot like Tio as she's silent and if she says something, she's usually doing it in a very calm and reserved way. She's also very observant and manipulated easily since she doesn't have an own will.

However, after she's "cured" she starts to develop a personality of her own - even so there are still things about life she doesn't seem to understand. Also, she keeps her quiet character, making her appear a lot like Tio.

Tabatha (Tales of Symphonia): Tabatha mostly resembles Tio in the beginning of her "evolution", while she's still acting mostly like a robot - which is due to the fact Tabatha herself is a robot/puppet (as it is called in the game) herself. Nonetheless she appears to have feeling anyway for no given reason.

Yet, it doesn't seem as though Tabatha does not understand her feelings... opposedly, she clearly states that she does in fact have feelings as well, despite being inorganic.

Malice@Doll (Malice@Doll): I don't know a lot about this character as I have seen the anime in Japanese only, yet before Malice@Doll turns into a human she seems to have plenty in common with Tio. While they're both roboters ("dolls", in that case) made for a certain purpose, Malice@Doll might shore more emotions than Tio does, but only because she is manufactured that way. Moreover both carry out orders without questioning them.
