Yamato's digimon resembles a wolf, thus supporting his "lone wolf" image. That aside, he's a rather "soft" digimon who tries to support and understand Yamato's thoughts very hard (although he's not usually successful). For example he emphasizes that above all, Yamato should have confidence in himself and shouldn't rely on what other's are saying; neither him, nor the other digidestined nor anyone else.

He's also loyal at all costs, as you can see when he tells Matt that he will always follow him, no matter what his reasons & goals are and whether he agrees to them or not (I guess that's something only a digimon can do with clear conscience). Further on he seems to be rather shy and quiet compared to the other digimon, as he doesn't speak a lot (which is not necessarily a bad thing - or have you ever heard of someone stating that Gabumon was annoying?).

This is supported by the fact that his element, if we say that every digimon has one (which, however, cannot be kept constantly), is water and his color (apparently the same as Yamato's) is blue, which usually stands for a calm, intellectual and reasonable personality (okay, so declaredly none of the digimon is really intelligent).
