relationships
Gabumon; Okay, so I guess that one is a really important one, isn't it? After
all, they're partners etc. Gabumon is a really nice digimon that tries to understand Yamato as good as possible. He even
supports Matt when he doesn't share his opinion (e.g. when he fought against Tai). As his partner, he's also dependent
on him concerning the digivolve.
But beyond that, they are - of course - also good friends. Although Gabumon might
not understand all of Yama's thoughts, he still tries his best to be a useful partner to him. Especially in the beginning
Yamato doesn't really appreciate it, yet later on he learns to know what he has in Gabumon.
To him, Yamato develops a very close relationship similar to that with his brother (although he knows Takeru far longer,
he's more protective of him than of Gabumon though, yet neither T.K. nor his digimon seem to completely understand his
thoughts). He trusts him a lot, shown in the fact that he communicates his cogitations to him and that he takes Gabumon
with him when he leaves the digidestined at some point.
Takeru Takaishi; His younger brother and the only person he actually seems to care for at the
start of Digimon. Despite the fact he is still very young, he demands to not be treated like a child anyway.
Especially that is quite hard for Yamato, as he is very protective of his brother (apparently he feels responsible). This
leads to some quarrels between them, not only because Takeru feels mistreated and therefore prefers to hang around Tai,
who isn't really as responsible as Matt, thus causing the aforementioned to become jealous of Tai.
But back to their relationship. As is to be expected, this is a rather good one. When they were small and still living
together, Yamato used to care for his brother and even though his overprotectiveness might annoy T.K. sometimes, he (at
least later) knows were it derives from and is therefore able to understand his brother.
Taichi Yagami; His former "rival" and later best friend, this relationship seems a little
undecided throughout the beginnining of the series. While Taichi is nearly instantly elected as the leader, Yamato still
prefers to go his own way rather than following someone else (especially airheads like Tai).
Not only for that reason, they fight a lot and don't seem very close; however, later on they get to know each other better
and start to understand that they in fact have quite a few things in common and work good as a team rather than rivals.
In the second season they are definite best friends and even try to communicate to Daisuke that their seeming "arguments"
are just part of their friendship, because although their opinion & perception might differ, they can still accept
each others point of view and therefore see everything from a different angle.
Besides, Taichi is the only one of the digidestined known to have a smaller sibling, so that's something that links them
as well, although it's nothing regarding their character(s).
Sora Takenouchi; In the first season they actually don't have much of a relationship that goes
deeper then "I know this person's name". Once he even calls her stupid (or something along those lines).
Anyhow, in the second season Sora develops a crush on him and they eventually become a couple. Surprisingly (okay, actually
it would have only been surprising if it had been a real situation), they're still together 25 years later when they're
married and have two children. Apart from that there's not much revealed/mentioned about their relationship.
Jou Kido; You might (or might not, hah) wonder why this is the next character on the list. What
came to my mind when I was thinking about the relationship between Yamato and him was that episode in which Jou saves
Takeru and Yamato's crest finally starts to function. Unfortunately I don't remember a lot about it except for that in one
scene they talk at least a little bit more intimate.
Furthermore they usually appear not very close, but not detached either which leads to the conclusion Yamato's level of
acquaintance with Jou is at least somewhat than with the other digidestined.
Masaharu Ishida; Since they live together, I suppose Yamato likes him (although it's no
guarantee, of course). As known from the series, his father's the only parent (and person) he lives together with. He
works a lot so that Matt constantly has to do the chores and prepare meals for the two of them.
Despite his father's love, Yamato had to suffer from loneliness during his earlier childhood due to his parting from his
mother and brother - even more so because his father was usually busy with working. Nonetheless, their present
relationship is rather good - yet Yamato would probably not tell him anything too personal as it's not in his nature,
but he has finally "forgiven" his father and doesn't blame him anymore in the end.
Natsuko Takaishi; Due to his parent's divorce he has been separated early from his mother.
This was not a great experience for him and he probably missed her during his childhood, especially because he didn't
his brother anymore either (which was harder for him, though).
At present, his relationship to his father is likely more family-like than to his mother for they've lived together much
longer and he might feel that his mother took Takeru away from him. However, he later comes to terms with it as well and
has a relaxed relation to her in the second season (another reason for this might be that Natsuko & Takeru moved
back to O-Daiba, so they are able to see each other more often).
